Day 11 – Porto!

Today was a bit of a wind down day. It is our last full day in Porto and Portugal, and a rainy one to boot – but that didn’t stop us!

We walked over to the Clérigos Church where I climbed the tower for views of the city. 250 steps later the views were not as spectacular as they would be without rain – but still fantastic!

We wandered around, hit the market again, some shops, and just generally enjoyed the area.

For lunch we went to what I would call the closest to a greasy spoon that I have seen here – and it did not disappoint! Mel and I split a Francesinha – best described as a like of different meats on toast, topped with a fried egg and a DIVINE tomato based sauce cooked with beer, whisky, port and spices. Can’t wait to make a poutine with this sauce!!!!

Now, our hotel is just on the street from an axe venue – and I have shown GREAT restraint to this point, but today was the day 🙂 we walked down there and I indulged in an hour of throwing while everyone else watched, drank and generally laughed at me 😂😂

The coach quickly figured out I kinda knew what I was doing, and the owner (a Texas transplant that opened up a couple of venues here) came out at the end and challenged me to a match – winner for shots 😉

Let’s just say that I may have been a bit tipsy when I left – it was great fun for an afternoon!

We needed a rest after that (definitely not for me to sober up… 😂) before our last dinner in Portugal.

Mel noted that the one “dress” shirt I brought happened to look very much like tiles here – so of course we found a tile wall and I did my best ninja imitation to disappear!

It has been a fantastic trip, with good friends and great memories. The picture I have shared here along the way are really a fraction of what was taken, but I hope you have enjoyed them.

If you get the chance to visit Portugal, please do. The people have been fantastic, the food amazing, and the history and sights something to behold – and in terms of travel for us in North America, it is easy to access.

So until our next trip (and we are planning a doozy ;)), one more time, TO THE PICS!
