Day 8/6 – Porto

We said goodbye to the gorgeous Douro Valley with a 1 hour cruise up the Douro River first thing in the morning, admiring the grape planted hills from the base of the area.

From there we headed to Porto – about. 2 1/2 hour bus ride. The first part of the ride was incredible as we climbed out of the valley, contrasting to the views from the river, there is no picture that could truly capture what we saw.

In the afternoon we arrived in Porto, the second biggest city in Portugal. We went for a group lunch and had one of our better meals, Tapas style sharing a selection of typical Portuguese dishes. Surprisingly my favourite was a Tripe dish that was kind of stew-like and really really good!

Afterwords we went for an orientation stroll through the area to see the landmarks that will help us get around, including a history lesson at the beautifully tiled train station.

Crossing the river, we had a sunset drink looking over the city, capping off yet another amazing day. Hard to believe that we are just about done here!

We got back to the hotel late, and went searching for a meal – 45 mins later, about 20 attempts at different (very full) restaurants, I’m ashamed to report that it ended up being a MacDonald’s night.

Good news/bad news. Good news is it is the FANCIEST McD’s in the world (it actually is), bad news is that it was the same crappy food 😂😂

Tomorrow is the last official day of the tour, then on to a couple of days exploring on our own. TO THE PICS!

P.S. axe throwing bar 10 steps from the hotel – will check that out for sure! Axe throwers gonna throw axes, even on vacation overseas 😂🤷‍♂️
