Day 5/2

Our first full day on the tour! It was a long day, so trying to make this brief 🙂

We had a walking tour of the old area of Lisbon today. We started from our hotel and hit a couple of squares nearby. Most of the area we have seen already on our own, but nice to hear a bit of history with it.

After about an hour we happened to be at the guides favourite pastry shop – and it was time for a coffee and, yup, a Pastel de Nata 😂

A sprinkle of Cinnamon and icing sugar to top it off the local way!

We continued walking around and seeing buildings, climbing streets, hearing about pre and post-earthquake Lisbon and a bit of recent history too.

A view of Lisbon from on high

We stopped again for a Portuguese Codfish Cakes – little torpedo shaped “cakes” of shredded salt cod and mashed potatoes fried up crispy – very tasty treat!

We left our local guide after a parting shot of Ginginha (sour cherry soaked brandy) and continued with our tour leader to Castelo de São Jorge on the top of a hill so ya, more climbing.

After climbing down we shared a marinated pork sandwich (Bifana) before dropping Bonnie and Tony off at the hotel to rest, while we went across town to check out the Jerónimos Monastery and sample the ORIGINAL custard tart that started it all – the Pastel de Belem.

We had a quick turnaround to get to a dinner to meet a friend from our Lapland trip that was in town on her way home from just finishing a tour, and now it is late so, to the pics!!
